There are around 200 pupils in the school. Much is done to create a supportive and purposeful environment that encourages the boys to aim high and achieve to the best of their ability.

The academic staff consists of qualified graduate teachers, classroom assistants and Learning Support specialists. The buildings are well maintained and facilities are regularly up-dated. There are strong links with local sports clubs that allow us to develop the physical aspects of education that are so important in a boys’ Prep School.

Boys follow the Early Years Framework in Reception Year, which forms a bridge between the nursery school and the National Curriculum. From Years 1 to 4 class teachers are responsible for the bulk of the teaching, but with increasing input from subject specialists in PE, Music, Art, ICT and French. From Year 5 upwards boys are taught entirely by subject, with the Common Entrance syllabus underpinning the academic curriculum. There are also numerous educational outings and four residential trips in the senior school, all of which enhance the curriculum. Boys are encouraged to learn a musical instrument, sing in the choir, perform in plays and concerts, and play an active part in the wide range of sports on offer. Football, rugby and cricket are the major team games. Further opportunities exist to participate in swimming, basketball, athletics, cross-country, badminton, hockey, tennis and golf. There is a wide range of lunchtime and after-school activities and clubs, including model making, chess and gardening.

Boys are not required to pass an assessment to gain entry into the school at Reception. Those wishing to join the school at a later stage in Year 1 or above are assessed in order to ensure that they will fit comfortably into their new surroundings.

Boys are prepared for entry to senior independent schools through Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations at 13+. The school has a strong record of success in placing boys in a senior school which is right for them in terms of academic challenge and personality. In recent years, these schools include Aldenham, Haberdashers’ Askes, Highgate, Haileybury, Mill Hill, St Albans , St Columba’s, University College School and Westminster.
