We have a new club . Toby from Sam Labs is leading a club up until half term. We have worked closely with Sam now for a year and this collaboration has helped to shape the new software Sam have released.

The boys have benefitted, seeing iterative design up close  working with the Sam team of designers and coders and seeing many of their suggestions being included in the product development. We hope to continue our work together this year and look forward to the new Sam app for the iPad.

Last Thursday we all had a fantastic day here at Keble for World Book Day.

Our theme for this year was “Bedtime Stories”. All boys from Reception through to Year 8 were invited to come to school in their favourite, snuggly bedtime clothing. Junior School boys (Reception to Year 4) were asked to bring a favourite ‘Bedtime’ storybook and their favourite bedtime cuddly toy; which were used as part of the literacy based activities taking place during the day.

As part of the day we were visited by a local author called Alex Weintroub who took an assembly for the whole school and talked about his journey and experiences of being an author and publishing a book. His book, called “Tilly the Tiger” is aimed at the age range 3 to 5 years. It was a fun day during which we all embraced books and found out lots of [...]

We have been using Sam Lab blocks for the past year with our boys. These fantastic blocks were invented by  Joachim Horn “to empower people with the right tools to shape the world they wanted to live in.” ( see more  information at  https://techcrunch.com/2016/05/01/sam-labs-funding/). We found out about these exciting new blocks and introduced them into Keble to improve our technology curriculum. We had wanted something to help the boys gain an understanding of the Internet of Things. The blocks use bluetooth to connect and allow the boys to prototype their ideas. They allow us to include open ended projects especially with  Y7 and Y8 and encourage the boys to invent and problem solve. We have used them so far with Y5,Y7 and Y8 and next term we will be also working with Y6.

We believe, at Keble, in preparing our boys for the future and we are very [...]

On Tuesday 28th February, Mrs Brace was invited to speak at an event jointly hosted by the Royal Geographical Society and the Independent Association of Prep Schools. In the session she shared some of her approaches to model making. Model making is a creative and inspiring way in which to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of key geographical features and processes. Models engage; they help the boys to visualise the real world in a way that diagrams cannot.

At Keble, the boys are familiar with using plasticine, cardboard, polystyrene and other media to portray the physical and human world. The 50 attendees, all Heads and teachers of Geography from a range of London Prep schools, were also given the opportunity to impress Mrs Brace by making their own model, in cake, to show how caves, arches, stacks and stumps are [...]

Dear Parents, As you will know all of the school s constituent parts, in some form or other, were offered e-Safety training on Tuesday. The parents session on Tuesday evening was very well attended from the perspective of Luke Brent-Savage who presented on the day. Sadly, Luke told me that many such sessions are too often very sparsely attended, which for him is very disappointing because almost all of the time initial grooming contacts are made at home or on devices linked to home. Schools these days have very rigorous filters and we tend to be more aware. Keble is no exception and you will be reassured that all school staff were trained similarly on Tuesday. Luke promised copies of the slides shown on Tuesday night and you will be able to now find these on the Parents Portal of our website. Although staff are only required to update their training every three years, there [...]

A few weeks ago I wrote a blog about a Y6 pupil Xavier who had entered a 3D design competition. The competition was to design, in CAD software, a sweet for production. The winner would receive a 3D sweet printer worth 30,000 pounds.

Xavier was the only child who entered the competition, the rest all being adults. I am pleased to write a follow up on his progress. Xavier has made it through to the next round of the competition and we are all very excited for him.

We have updated our Keble Video Library this week. The old video library was given to the school to use for free, three years ago, by MediaCore a company who specialised in video platforms for schools. They used us to promote their product to schools and universities as an example of how schools could share videos with pupils and parents. Unfortunately, they have been bought out and like all good things our use of the platform has come to an end.

We have created a new video library for staff, pupils and parents and it is now live. We have put it in the same place as the old library and it can be accessed through the school portal. Over the year we will be posting all our new videos to the library for the Keble community to enjoy. At present we have the Reception and Year 1 video for you to enjoy and we [...]

A huge thank you to Ms Cliffe who very kindly came into school today and trained the staff in how to use an Auto-Injector Syringe( EpiPen) and a defibrillator. The school has invested in a new defibrillator which is state of the art and Ms Cliffe explained how to use it properly. It was a really useful and informative session and was greatly appreciated by all the staff, who now feel much more confident in using both pieces of equipment.

Mr Gill will be running a holiday club during the Easter break from Monday 27th March to Friday 7th April 2017. If you would like to find out more details go to the holiday club tab on the menu bar of the school portal or contact him direct on pgill@kebleprep.co.uk.
